Commercial Bank Group CEO Andrew C Stevens has resigned and is appointed adviser to the bank’s board of directors.

Stevens’ appointment as adviser to the BOD was announced by Commercial Bank chairman and board of directors here yesterday.

Commercial Bank said, “Andrew C Stevens, who has held a series of senior management roles at the bank over the past 25 years, has resigned from his current role as Group chief executive officer with immediate effect to assume the responsibilities of the new role. His responsibilities will include advising the board as well as representing Commercial Bank on the board and board Committees of the subsidiary and associate Banks, Alternatifbank in Turkey, United Arab Bank in the UAE and National Bank of Oman in Oman.

“Steven’s current responsibilities across the group will henceforth be managed by Commercial Bank chief executive officer, Abdulla Saleh al-Raisi and his executive team.”

Commercial Bank chairman Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali bin Jabor al-Thani, said, “I would like to congratulate Andrew C Stevens on his appointment to this new role, and to extend my thanks on behalf of the Bank and the board of directors for his service over the past 25 years, when he held a number of the most senior leadership positions. His efforts over this period have contributed to the Bank’s growth to become the second-largest bank in the country. As adviser to the board of directors his expertise and experience will contribute as the bank continues to expand and grow.”

Hussain Alfardan, vice-chairman and managing director said, “Andrew C Stevens leaves his current position as Group CEO after a quarter of a century of service, which saw Commercial Bank achieve its prominent position in the Qatar financial sector. We wish him every success in his new role as advisor to the Board and with his future plans outside of the Bank.”

Stevens said, “I would like to thank everyone at the Bbank for their support and efforts over my long tenure which has made the Bank what it is today. I would especially like to thank Sheikh Abdulla bin Ali bin Jabor al-Thani, Hussain Alfardan and the members of the board for their leadership and trust.

“With a strong and talented management team in place, the bank has an exciting and prosperous future ahead. I look forward to taking up my new role as advisor to the board of directors and continuing my close links with the continued success of Commercial Bank.”
