du was presented with an Excellence in GIS Implementation Award during the GISWORX 2012 Gala Dinner, held recently in Dubai. The award was bestowed upon du after a review by the independent EGI Award Committee, as part of GISWORX 2012, the seventh annual GIS Workshops & Exhibitions for ESRI users.
Khurram Durrani from du received the award during the ceremony, on behalf of the company.
“It is a pleasure to receive this award, and we would like to thank GISWORX and the EGI Award Committee for its recognition. Since 2006, when we first procured ESRI GIS and Telcordia Networking Engineer products, we have been developing and growing GIS within our company. Today, it is an integral part of our operations and we are proud to have shown the region the ways in which GIS can be incorporated to great success,” said Ahmed Hassan, Executive Vice President, Information Technology, du.
The award is given to organisations that foster innovation and experimentation in the area of GIS implementation, and to honour outstanding GIS implementation programmes.
du is considered one of the region’s pioneers in incorporating Geographic Information System (GIS) technology into the effective planning and deployment of its telecommunication network and services. Since first investing in the technology in 2006, the telecom’s GIS has evolved into an integrated Operational Support System (OSS) suited, and is considered as a business critical solution, supporting a wide variety of organisations within the company.
