Dubai Financial Market overall performance decreased by 7.5% to reach 1461.8 points the end of June 2010 compared to 1579.54 points at the end of May. The market capitalization decreased at the end of this month by 5.4% to reach Dhs191.9bn compared to Dhs202.9bn at the end of May.

The value of shares traded during this month reached Dhs3.9bn, compared to Dhs5.8bn recorded during May, a decrease by 33.2%. Number of shares traded decreased by 11.2% to reach 2.7 billion shares during this month compared to 3.0 billion shares were traded during the May. Number of transactions executed during June 2010 decreased by 24.3% to reach 53.2 thousand compared to 70.2 thousand deals carried out during the last month.

In terms of sectors contribution to trading volumes, the real estate and construction sector ranked first in terms of the value of traded shares, to reach Dhs2.7bn, or 70.1% of the total value of shares traded in the market. Investment and financial services ranked second at Dhs528.7m, or 13.7%, followed by the banking sector to Dhs266.2m, or 6.9%, and the transportation sector amounted to Dhs214.5m, or 5.6%. The Communications sector handled Dhs85.7m, or 2.2%, and Utilities sector amounted 38.6 million, or 1.0%. Insurance sector handled Dhs20.9m, or 0.5%, and the Consumer Staples sector makes Dhs67.5 thousand and the Materials sector ranked last to reach Dhs14.2 thousand.

The value of stocks bought by institutional investors during this month reached Dhs1.041bn comprising 26.9% of the total value of stocks traded during the period. The value of stocks sold by institutional investors during the same period reached Dhs861.1m which constitutes 22.3% of the total value of stocks traded during the period. Net institutional investment on the market reached Dhs179.8m during the period. as aggregate buy.

The value of shares bought by foreign investors during this month reached Dhs1.734bn comprising 44.9% of the total value of stocks traded during the period. The value of stocks sold by foreign investors during the same period reached Dhs1.556bn comprising 40.3% of the total value of stocks traded during the period. Net foreign investment on the market reached Dhs178.6m during the same period, as aggregate buy.
