French Consumer Confidence Improves In May

French consumer sentiment continued to recover in May, survey results from the statistical office Insee revealed Friday.

The consumer confidence index rose to 90 from April's revised level of 89. Economists were expecting the index to remain at April's originally reported reading of 88. Nonetheless, the index stays below its long-term average of 100.

Households assessment of their past and future financial situation increased in May. Households' opinion about their current savings capacity also improved.

After a sharp increase in April, saving intentions of households decreased in May. Meanwhile, households opinion about expected general economic situation in France kept recovering.
