French current account deficit declined in May, but still remained above economists' forecast, data from Bank of France showed Wednesday.
The current account deficit narrowed to EUR 4.1 billion in May from a EUR 4.4 billion shortfall recorded in April. This was expected to fall to EUR 3.5 billion.
The deficit in goods account dropped to EUR 5.6 billion in May from EUR 6 billion in April. Service account showed a surplus of EUR 1.9 billion, slightly higher than EUR 1.7 billion in the previous month.
The balance on income account was in a surplus of EUR 2.7 billion, less than EUR 3 billion in the preceding month. The net outflow of current transfers was EUR 3.1 billion, unchanged from April.
