Malaysia's Exports Fall 0.1% In April

Malaysia's exports declined unexpectedly in April, the latest figures from the Department of Statistics showed Wednesday.

Exports fell 0.1 percent year-on-year in April, against 1.1 percent increase expected by economists. Exports totaled MYR 57.74 billion in April.

This compares with exports worth MYR 57.80 billion in April last year and MYR 61.8 billion in March 2012.

Meanwhile, imports grew 7.4 percent year-on-year to MYR 50.2 billion. This was lower than MYR 51.3 billion of imports in March but higher than MYR 46.8 billion in April 2011.

The trade surplus narrowed to MYR 7.51 billion in April from MYR 10.45 billion in March. Last year, the surplus was MYR 11 billion.
