The National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD), The Number One Bank in the UAE, has announced that the 27th NBAD Abu Dhabi Ladies Open Golf Championship will be held over the weekend of 21 and 22 January 2011 at the Al Ghazal Golf Club (AGGC).

The championship is one of the most popular ladies sand course events of the UAE's golfing calendar; it is sanctioned by the Emirates Golf Federation, golf's ruling body in the U.A.E. and is one of the oldest Order of Merit events.

"We are pleased and proud to be part of the history of the Abu Dhabi Ladies Open Championship in which NBAD has been involved since the early 1980's," said Mr. Michael Tomalin, the Group Chief Executive of NBAD.

"Since its inception in 1968, NBAD has been supporting the needs of the community. In our Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility (CSR) policy, we pledged to act as a role model in the social and environmental development of the UAE, and the countries in which we operate. We are engaged in many vital activities in this regard such as donations, sponsorships, corporate philanthropy, and CSR projects. Our community support focuses on the areas of education, health, community development, environment, art, music, and sports," Mr. Tomalin said.

"AGGC is very honoured that the National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) is committed to the Al Ghazal Golf Club and the holding of the 27th NBAD Abu Dhabi Ladies Open Golf Championship. NBAD, the Number One Bank in the UAE, has once again broken a prestigious record by becoming the first ever longest running sponsor in the history of golf in the UAE, well before the concept of 'grass courses in the UAE was ever envisioned" Ms. Angela Scurr, Al Ghazal Golf Club Manager said.

Al Ghazal's Lady Captain Pauline Jeynes commented that the ladies section is very proud to have NBAD continue their support of ladies golf in the U.A.E. The event is open to Lady Professionals and Amateurs with the Amateurs out-numbering the Professionals.

Many of the top amateurs in the U.A.E. have already signed up to play including last year's winner Nasha Sarkari from the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club. Nasha has always been a contender over recent years and she finally added the 2009 NBAD Ladies Open title to her already impressive list of wins! Other players to watch are Sana Tufail, who when in the UK plays for the Surry Ladies and competed in some very prestigious events in the UK this last summer. Also in contention is Lindsay Brown from Palm Sports Resort, Al Ain.

Lady Captain Pauline is looking forward to greeting everyone over the weekend and expects an exciting 27th NBAD Abu Dhabi Ladies Open Golf Championship.
