Nifty ends near 5,250; Cairn, BPCL, Infosys up

The Nifty closed on a positive note. Cairn India, BPCL, Infosys Technologies and IDFC led the upmove.

The 50-share index ended at 5,242.15, up 25.85 points or 0.50 per cent. It touched a high of 5,257.75 and a low of 5,233.15 in trade today.

The Sensex closed at 17,272.61, up 87.60 points or 0.51 per cent. It touched a high of 17,318.93 and a low of 17,244.76 in trade today.

The BSE Midcap Index was up 0.14 per cent and the BSE Smallcap Index moved 0.39 per cent higher.

Among the sectoral indices, the BSE IT Index moved up 1.62 per cent, the BSE Oil & Gas Index gained 1.21 per cent, the BSE Power Index was up 0.94 per cent and the BSE Metal Index advanced 0.91 per cent. The BSE Auto Index was down 0.39 per cent.
