Ooredoo, Qatar’s leading communications company, has invested over $1bn in creating fibre network and fixed and mobile connectivity across Qatar. This infrastructure has enabled the company to launch latest products and services in the country.

“We would like to bring the latest and the best services to the customers through our Supernet network that we have built. We have spent more than $1bn in building fibre to the home and 4G + network in Qatar which has enabled data speed on fixed and wireless of 300 Mbps and more,” said Waleed Al Sayed, Chief Executive Officer, Ooredoo Qatar yesterday on the sidelines of launch of Ooredoo tv. “Now it is time for us to provide content and services over this fast network,” he said.

The company yesterday announced the launch of Ooredoo tv which has replaced Mozaic TV. Ooredoo’s fibre network is available across Qatar, with more than 260,000 homes and businesses currently benefiting from super fast Internet and next generation services. Since its launch in 2011, the fibre network has transformed the broadband internet market and digital entertainment industry in Qatar.

According to Ooredoo officials more than half of its fibre customers have Mozaic TV while there are some Mozaic customers who are on its copper network.

One of the major benefits customers have received by Ooredoo’s expanding network is super fast speed.

Ooredoo recently launched a major speed upgrade for fibre customers, boosting its top-level packages to deliver the fastest Fibre speeds in Qatar for free. With the upgrade, all 50Mbps home fibre plans received a double speed increase to 100Mbps, while existing 100Mbps plans were boosted to 300Mbps, which is the fastest home fixed line connection ever offered.

With a 300 Mbps speed, customers can download a two-hour, standard-definition movie (1.5 gigabytes) in less than 40 seconds and a two-hour, high-definition movie (5 GB) in 2.2 minutes.

Last year in October, Ooredoo collaborated with Nokia Networks and Netgear for a first-of-its-kind speed test using LTE-Advanced Cat 11 on the Ooredoo Supernet and achieved a peak data rate of 590 Mbps, which was the first time this speed was reached in tests in Qatar and the whole GCC region.
