The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed the second phase of the Jumeirah Corniche Development project spanning 2.5-km.
The beach side, which will extend to 4.5 km after the development project, is due to open for the public this month, stated a statement from the RTA.
With this work, the completion rate has shot up to 77 per cent in the project which is penciled for final opening next October, said a senior official.
"The newly-completed sector of the corniche will be open for the public in the third week of this month, and now walking and jogging enthusiasts can practice and enjoy their hobbies at the Corniche, particularly as walking is growing into a good healthy practice amongst all community members," remarked Maitha bin Udai, the CEO of RTA Traffic and Roads Agency.
The Jumeirah Corniche Development project, which extends about 7 km, encompasses a 5-m wide walk, 4-m wide jogging track, and rest areas including retail kiosks, shaded benches overlooking the beach as well as public and health amenities.
"The project is characterized by a unique touch of beauty featuring gorgeous landscaping and flooring works; which are distributed in highly coordinated style in addition to decorative lighting in a stylish and innovative manner," stated bin Udai.
"The Jumeirah Corniche Project will turn the sand beach into a vibrant venue fitted with abundant public utilities for beachgoers amongst residents and tourists heading to the beaches of Dubai to savour a fine seaside sitting or practicing jogging or walking sports," she added.
