Qatar’s bourse gained for the second day yesterday, mainly on micro and large cap stocks. Banking equities saw some buying interest as the 20-stock benchmark settled 0.29% higher at 7,062.83 points.

The market is up 1.53% year-to-date.

Qatar Islamic Bank, Industries Qatar and National Leasing (NLC) were among the top gainers. The insurance index rose 1.27%, followed by industry (0.45%), banks and financial institutions (0.30%) and services (0.12%).

Market capitalisation rose 0.71% or about QR3bn to QR378.21bn with micro and large cap equities gaining 0.66% and 0.34% respectively.

Total trading volume fell 35% to 3.01mn equities, value by 29% to QR100.68mn and transactions by 16% to 2,153.

The industrial sector’s trading volume plummeted 56% to 0.24mn shares, value by 55% to QR10.85mn and deals by 52% to 233.

Banks and financial institutions saw trading volume plunge 40% to 0.60mn equities and value by 18% to QR28.90mn. But transactions gained 1% to 563. The insurance sector’s trading volume fell 38% to 0.05mn shares, value by 28% to QR1.87mn and deals by 39% to 44.

The services sector saw its trading volume drop 30% to 2.11mn stocks, value by 27% to QR59.05mn and transactions by 10% to 1,313.

Actively traded stocks (in terms of volume) were NLC (621,884 shares), Gulf International Services (349,991), Barwa (239,290), Aamal Holding (211,704) and Masraf Al Rayan (203,814).
