The rupee opened higher at 55.38 to the US dollar on positive global markets.
At 9.56 am, the currency was trading at 55.51 against the dollar.
The domestic unit had ended flat at 55.63 on Tuesday making it unclear on the possible RBI intervention.
The dollar-rupee exchange rate touched a life-time low of 56.50 on May 31. Since then, the local currency has remained volatile on overseas dollar demand and RBI action.
