The rupee fell by 2 paise to Rs 45.18 against the US dollar in the early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market on Friday, tracking weakness in other Asian currencies.
Month—end demand from importers for the American currency and a weak opening in the stock market also weighed on the rupee sentiment.
Forex dealers said the dollar’s gains against other Asian currencies and month—end demand for the American currency from importers also put pressure on the rupee.
The domestic unit had ended 7 paise lower at Rs 45.16/17 against the US dollar in the previous session.
