The Intilaaqah programme, part of Shell's global LiveWire social investment initiative, is contributing significantly to the Omanisation policy by training and providing opportunities for a large number of young entrepreneurs every year.
The programme, which was first launched in Scotland and brought to Oman almost 20 years ago, has provided training for about 8,000 Omanis, with a focus on Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) and entrepreneur training.
Chris Breeze, Shell's country chairman in Oman, says that the initiative helps give young Omanis access to business opportunities provided by big corporate groups' supply chains and runs training courses every year. The programme has been a breakthrough in eight countries in the Middle East.
The current set of Intilaaqah's training courses began in August 2014 and will continue throughout the year in regions across Oman, Breeze told Times of Oman.
According to him, memorandums of understanding (MoUs) have been signed with Future Generations International, Haya Water and Zubair Small Enterprise Centre as the programme believes in local strategic partnerships.
