MUSCAT: Taking cues from the bearish sentiments in global and regional markets, local investors moved to risk aversion mode, causing the benchmark index to close down by 11 points or 0.17 per cent at 6556.74 points.
The MSM Sharia Index increased by 0.22 per cent and closed at 993.11 points. Phoenix Power was the most active in terms of volume as well as turnover. Alizz islamic bank, up by 8.11 per cent, was Tuesday’s top gainer while National Gas, down by 4.64 per cent, was the top loser. As many as 820 trades were executed during the day's trading session generating turnover of OMR4.2 million with around 20 million shares changing hands. Out of 43 traded securities, six advanced, 15 declined and 22 remained unchanged. Domestic investors stood as net buyers for OMR168,000, while GCC and Arab investors were net sellers for OMR89,000 followed by foreign investors for OMR81,000 worth of shares.
Financial Index had lost 0.63 per cent before closing at 8,028.76 points. Alizz islamic bank and Bank Sohar gained 8.11 per cent, and 0.49 per cent, respectively. Ahli Bank, Al Madina Takaful, Oman United Insurance, Al Anwar Holding, and Oman & Emirates Investments declined by 2.25 per cent, 2.15 per cent, 1.89 per cent, 1.75 per cent, and 1.75 per cent, respectively.
Industrial Sector Index ended at 8,313.73 points, down by 0.09 per cent. Oman Cement increased by 0.38 per cent to close at OMR0.522. Al Jazeera Steels, Galfar Engineering, Al Anwar Ceramics, and Oman Flour Mills declined by 0.85 per cent, 0.82 per cent, 0.49 per cent, and 0.40 per cent, respectively.
Services Sector Index closed the day at 3524.93 points, marginally lower by 0.06 per cent. Ooredoo Oman, Sharqiya Desalination, and Oman Telecommunications Company increased by 1.02 per cent, 0.77 per cent, and 0.29 per cent, respectively. With today’s gains, Ooredoo Oman closed at the highest level since March, 2011. National Gas, OIFC, Renaissance Services, and Sembcorp Salalah declined by 4.64 per cent, 0.93 per cent, 0.71 per cent and 0.20 per cent, respectively.
