Global markets falter as euphoria fizzles

The Dow fell 1.1% on Monday to break its four-day winning streak as the initial euphoria over Spain's bank bailout fizzled and fears about the global economic slowdown resurfaced. Surging Spanish bond yields also raised concerns about the bailout. European markets were mixed yesterday with the CAC40 witnessing moderate losses, while the DAX closed marginally higher. Asian markets are trading with significant losses this morning led by Nikkei 225 and Shanghai Composite down 1.3% and 0.8% respectively, at 1:00pm JST. Brent crude fell sharply in the late trading yesterday and is currently trading at $97.4 per barrel.
