Within the framework of mutual collaboration and coordination with Society's Public Benefit Associations, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Emirates environmental Group (EEG) for collaboration in the field of supporting environmental initiatives and strengthening the great efforts exerted to conserve power and water as well as waste recycling.

These initiatives are fostered by DEWA through creating a platform comprising of business councils representing countries which produce high- quality products in the field of energy.

These business councils encourage participants to reserve country-wise pavilions to exhibit their expertise and products during the coming session of WETEX 2011. At this exhibition, which is held by DEWA on a yearly basis from 8th to 10th of March, the Authority exhibits state-of-the-art technologies and solutions in the field of water, energy and environment.

On this occasion, H.E Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer , the Managing Director & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) praised the constructive collaboration between DEWA and EEG.

HE also stressed the importance of EEG's outreach and vital role to protect the environment against pollution. Besides H.E Al Tayer pointed out that the main objective of this agreement is to educate and edify all consumers, through the Exhibition and the other various channels, on the process of electricity and water conservation as well as protecting our resources. This agreement has a particular importance due to EEG's numerous activities in this field.

H.E Al Tayer further added that collaboration between DEWA and EEG is taking root day after day as both of them adopt several environmental-related events and activities. Also, the two sides' objectives converge as they both believe in the necessity to protect the environment from pollution with all its different forms, conserving our resources which constitute a fundamental element in sustainable development towards which we are going steadily.

The agreement has been signed by Ms/ Habiba Al Marashi, Chairperson of EEG and Mr/ Abdullah Al Hajri,Executive EVP - Customer Service at DEWA.

Following the signing ceremonies, Ms/ Habiba Al Marashi stated: "I believe that all institutions are responsible for protecting the environment, and this agreement is a good example that embodies successful partnerships between the different sectors of society. It is noteworthy that EEG participates in WETEX Exhibition since its inception and is fully aware of its importance and impact on the region. We, at EEG, welcome such partnerships, and will spare no effort to achieve the aspired results and reap the benefit of this collaboration. Definitely, this kind of agreement will lead, at the end, to taking sustainable measures in favor of the environment."

"We really appreciate DEWA's pioneering role to protect the environment, which can be clearly seen through putting out the tender for operating a number of its substations by using clean coal. Also DEWA's call for its customers to cut down on power consumption is effective and helpful in this regard. EEG expresses its pleasure to be working and collaborating with DEWA during Wetex 2011," Ms/ Al Marashi said.

On his part, Mr/ Abdullah Al Hajri stated: "We, at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, are happy to sign such agreement with Emirates Environmental Group as they share with us the same objectives to protect the environment and conserve electricity and water consumption."
