VIVA Bahrain has successfully implemented Huawei’s triple-beam antenna technology for the first time commercially.

The innovative technology delivers 2.7 times the performance of a regular mobile tower and capacity to absorb traffic demand, offering higher quality telecommunications services, whilst enhancing VIVA’s customers connectivity at events or locations where data demand is extremely high, said a statement from VIVA Bahrain.

VIVA’s first successful deployment of Huawei’s-designed solution was done during the Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, where VIVA subscribers enjoyed flawless connectivity to the 4G network. This was the first stage of a full rollout of this technology in different locations across Bahrain, where installation of new tower sites has limitations.

“With Huawei, we have achieved a great technological breakthrough. We always look for new ways to further enhance our customers’ experience and meet their demands for high data volume,” said VIVA Bahrain chief executive Ulaiyan Al Wetaid.

“Delivering the fastest 4G LTE network lies at the heart of VIVA and we have achieved so by implementing an innovative solution that provides an environmentally responsible alternative by significantly reducing the need to build new tower sites in Bahrain,” Mr Al Wetaid added.

“Both companies worked closely to ensure the successful deployment of Huawei’s solution, making VIVA the first operator in the world to use it for commercial purposes,” said Huawei’s Wireless UMTS Product Line president Peng Honghua.
