Dr Rasheed bin al Safi al Huraibi, Chairman of the Tender Board, launched the awareness campaign of Dhofar Power Company to rationalise consumption titled "Our Energy Is Wealth and Rationalisation Is Culture" in the company's concession areas in Dhofar Governorate during the period from April 22 to May 21, 2014. The end of the campaign coincides with the Arab Energy Efficiency Day. The campaign, launched on April 22 at Crowne Plaza Hotel in Salalah, aims at raising the efficiency of electricity use for home appliances, and how to maintain it during the summer. The campaign comes in the context of the task of the company to raise awareness in the field of energy conservation, through presenting experiences and successful applications in this area, given the increasing domestic consumption of electric power and the high pressure caused by its waste and lack of rationalisation.

The inauguration ceremony, which was attended by a number of shaikhs and officials, included an operetta of four encaustics embodying the campaign's slogan and telling about electricity evolution during the blessed Renaissance led wisely by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos. Objectives of the campaign: Ali bin Eisa Shamas, CEO of DPC, pointed out that spreading awareness about rationalising electricity consumption became imperative and an important step due to its role in promoting the efforts of the government of the Sultanate which is committed to optimum utilisation of domestic energy sources and advancement of their production and consumption. He noted that the awareness campaign carried out by DPC targeted large segments of the society, and would begin this year from the Wilayat of Salalah, where the campaign was presented in an attractive shape through distribution of gifts and brochures that explain the importance of electricity and how to optimally rationalise its consumption.

He explained that all the aspects of the consumption rationalisation campaign focused on establishing a culture of rationalising consumption and raising awareness of the risk arising from electricity. The campaign aims also at instilling some important concepts among different groups, especially school students and families, to devote optimal low-cost consumer practices. Awareness and rationalisation: Ali bin Eisa Shamas pointed out to the importance of the campaign which aim to provide the necessary information to educate members of the community by the means and tools available to rationalise electricity consumption and highlighted the negative effects and risks of irrational consumption, stressing that the company was willing to provide the necessary technical advice to its subscribers, he added.

He also pointed out that the launch of the campaign of rationalisation of electricity consumption and raising the efficiency of their use aimed at informing the public about the ways and methods that will contribute to the reduction of wasteful consumption of electricity, and that the company was keen to develop its services to all segments of society and sectors of economic, industrial and other vital sectors of society, as well as developing plans and strategies to cope with the steady increase in demand, hoping that efforts may be exerted for the campaign to succeed in achieving its goals. He also called on all citizens and residents to interact with the objectives of the campaign and participate in the programmes designed for the interest of everyone, and hoped that the campaign may be appropriate for the company to review the consumption habits and stop wastage.
