Qatargas, the world’s largest Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) producing company, was recently awarded the Shell ‘Goal Zero Award’ in recognition of its continued excellent safety performance.
The award aims to promote and build a strong safety culture in the industry by recognising and celebrating great safety performance. Qatargas received the award in recognition of working ten million man-hours without serious leaks or incidents.
Ahmad Helal Al Mohannadi, Qatargas Chief Operating Officer (Operations), received the award from Michiel Kool, Managing Director and Chairman of Qatar Shell Companies, in a brief ceremony held at the Qatargas Headquarters in Ras Laffan.
Al Mohannadi said: “We highly appreciate the Shell Goal Zero award in recognition of working 10 million man-hours without a serious incident or release. Our safety programme is first and foremost about caring for our people. Qatargas management is fully committed to ensure safe operation and to provide a safe work environment for our employees and contractors. We accept no compromise in this area. This achievement is the result of our belief in the ‘Incident and Injury Free’ culture which is integrated in all our activities. Qatargas highly appreciates the support received from our shareholder partners and looks forward to continued improvement of our safety performance.”
Randy Lee Stadler, Qatargas Chief Safety, Environment and Quality Officer, added: “We in Qatargas believe that safety is not a mere collection of policies and procedures. Safety is a core value that shapes our behaviours and actions, not only at work, but in everything we do each and every day. In Qatargas, no job is well done unless it is done safely. In 2015, Shell brought expertise and support to Qatargas in addressing “Line of Fire” hazards, bringing us closer to our vision of an ‘Incident and Injury Free’ workplace. We appreciate the recognition of our 10 million man-hour safety milestone, and we look forward to continued collaboration in making 2016 our safest year yet.”
Michiel Kool, Managing Director and Chairman of Qatar Shell Companies said: “At Shell, what we call Goal Zero is a deep belief that we can run our operations with no harm to people and no leaks. We are proud to be working with a partner like Qatargas that shares the same belief, making sure that Qatargas staff and contractors go back to their homes safe and sound every day.”
“Shell’s Goal Zero Award to Qatargas is a recognition for working with this mindset in day to day operations as demonstrated by an outstanding safety performance with Qatargas registering 10 million working hours without significant leaks or incidents. I would like to congratulate all Qatargas management and staff as well as its partners and contractors on achieving this milestone. We look forward to our continued partnership with Qatargas that maintains safety as a core value,” he said.
