The Saudi Telecom Company (STC) participated in the annual MENA Information Security Conference 2017 that took place in Riyadh on Tuesday. The conference was sponsored by STC Solutions, a subsidiary of the STC Group, and was attended by leading global companies in the field of information security and technology.

STC Group CEO Khaled Biyari spoke at the opening session about the importance of confronting e-threats in the Kingdom and the region, and the role of STC in addressing aspects of information security solutions and spreading its culture at the individual and business levels.

Omer Al-Nomany, STC Solutions CEO, said: “The Gulf states have been attacked by an external electronic organization, last year specifically, which targeted information infrastructure ... which requires the acceleration of information security awareness, and benefiting from regional and international experience in combating the so-called cyberattacks.”

“This is why we are sponsoring and participating in the annual information security conference. The company is also supporting the ‘Hackathon’ contest that will be held on the sidelines of the conference. This contest will identify talented Saudi youths in the field of information security to benefit from them in responding to cyberattacks. It will target students of Saudi universities and serve as a platform to inspire them and use their technical talents,” Al-Nomany said in a statement issued before the event.

The top three contestants will be rewarded with cash prizes and their universities honored, he added.

“The contest aims at attracting young Saudi talent, to prepare them for future roles in the field of information security, and provide protection for infrastructure and data around the Kingdom,” he said.

The information security conference is in line with Vision 2030 and the National Transformation Program 2020. It aims to promote a networking platform between leaders and thinkers from this field in the Kingdom.

The conference discussed a series of important working papers that provides a detailed “road map” about the nature of cyberthreats, and addresses the growing exploitation of electronic networks for purposes that affect the safety of national information infrastructures.
