Malaysian shares were lower at mid-afternoon today as investors continuously took profit in selected heavyweights ahead of the weekend, dealers said.

At 3.10pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (FBM KLCI) slipped 6.98 points to 1,434.09, dragged down by losses mostly in Genting, Sime Darby and Telekom Malaysia.

The main index had opened 1.02 points lower at 1,440.05.

The Finance Index dropped 19.99 points to 12,929.84, the Plantation Index rose 15.63 points to 6,658.13 and the Industrial Index decreased 7.95 points to 2,762.85.

The FBM Emas Index meanwhile, was 29.63 points lower at 9,569.11, the FBM70 Index added 7.01 points to 9,336.67 and the FBM ACE Index improved 20.14 points to 3,736.57.
