In Focus 1: UAE Banks in 2Q2009

We look at the results of United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) banks in the second quarter of 2009, comparing the results to the same period last year and to the first quarter of 2009. We focus on earning components, growth in lending and deposits, liquidity, capitalization, and asset quality indicators. We notice a few important differences between Abu Dhabi banks and Dubai banks.

In Focus 2: Kuwaiti Companies Likely to Make or Miss 2009 Dividends

The global downturn of 2008 has been studied and dissected considerably in order to understand and forecast its potential impact. We previously carried out an exercise to measure the exposure of companies in Kuwait, the UAE, and Qatar to market investments, as well as their short-term solvency position and debt-servicing ability. Sticking with the dogma of informing investors, we have carried out an exercise in order to examine which listed Kuwaiti companies are unlikely to pay cash dividends for 2009.
