The capital value of companies listed at Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange amounted to Dhs87.1 billion by the end of 2016, according to official statistics.

The banking sector accounts for 41.2 per cent of the total capital of 13 national banks worth Dhs35.9 billion before the merger of the NBAD and First Gulf Bank.

This is followed by the energy sector whose capital value hit Dhs13 billion, then the property sector with Dhs12.2 billion.

The capital value of national companies listed at the telecommunication sector reached Dhs8.696 billion, while that of the industrial sector firms stood at Dhs7.8 billion followed by the insurance sector at Dhs3.1 billion then the financial sector at Dhs2.6 billion.

At the services sector, the capital of listed companies is put at Dhs2.5 billion, with the consumer staples sector coming at around Dhs1.3 billion.

It’s noteworthy that ADX has not until the end of 2016 seen any listings by transport firms, which means that there are still some economic platforms not represented in the Abu Dhabi bourse.

Foreign investors’ purchases in July 2017 reached Dhs1.391 billion at Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, ADX, accounting for 42.5 per cent of total buy trades, whereas their sales stood at Dhs1.365 billion, comprising 41.7 per cent of total sell trades, bringing to Dhs26 million the net foreign investments in July, with net institutional investments in the same month amounting to Dhs254.5 million.

ADX General Index increased by 3.18 per cent to 4566 points in July. The telecommunications sector registered the highest rise of 8.38 per cent, followed by investment and financial services sector at 6.29 per cent; the property sector at 2.95 per cent; the services sector at 1.5 per cent; banking sector at 1.26 percent; and the energy sector at 0.69 per cent. Meanwhile the industry sector dropped by 1.63 per cent, followed by the consumer staples sector at 1 per cent, and the insurance sector at 0.48 per cent.

The domestic market capitalisation of companies listed at ADX increased 3.61 per cent to Dhs441.245 billion compared with Dhs425.862 billion in June 2017.
