HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada has met United States Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz in Washington DC.

Al-Sada is currently on an official visit to the United States, reports QNA.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the energy situation in the world and developments and challenges in the oil and gas markets.

They also discussed Qatar Petroleum’s investments in the US, in addition to bilateral co-operation in energy field.

Al-Sada also met with top executives of major energy companies in Houston, Texas. They include executives of Exxon Mobil, ConocoPhillips and Chevron Phillips Chemical. During these talks they also reviewed bilateral relations and ways of enhancing them.

The meetings were attended by Qatar’s Ambassador to the United States, Mohamed Jaham al-Kuwari and senior officials from Qatar Petroleum, RasGas and Qatar Petroleum International.

Meanwhile, al-Kuwari hosted a dinner in honour of al-Sada in association with the American Chamber of Commerce and the US-Qatar Business Council in Washington DC, which was attended senior American officials, headed by Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Anne Patterson and Susan Ziadeh, who is responsible for Gulf Affairs and Yemen at the US State Department. Al-Sada stressed the strong relationship between Qatar and energy companies in the United States, emphasising on the need for closer co-operation between the two sides.

He also pointed out that such a partnership will help Qatar to exploit its energy resources so as to be an “engine for development and build a sustainable economy that benefits all Qataris”. For her part, Patterson confirmed that the economic relations between the two countries became very close today, referring to the United States readiness to support the development of Qatar’s economy.
