DEWA is inviting competent consulting firms to submit their proposals and tenders for the purpose of implementing a Smart Grid strategy to improve the effective utilization of electricity by optimizing the operation of generation, transmission and distribution networks. The last date for receiving completed tenders is 17th May 2012.

DEWA is focusing on implementing a Smart Grid strategy to incorporate automated decision-making and interoperability. DEWA focuses on reliability, sustainability, and connecting renewable energy resources to the grid, to achieve a green and cleaner environment, to encourage conservation, demand management, and a more-efficient management of infrastructure investments and grid operations.

DEWA takes a pioneering view of the future for Smart Grids as a means to increase an electrical delivery system's output, while reducing energy consumption. Its implementation will further Dubai's goal to attain global leadership in green economics. By implementing the Smart Grid system, the efficiency of the electrical network will be improved, and energy consumption will be reduced. Also, the operation of the electrical network will be optimized.

DEWA's Smart Grid System Strategy report will cover the existing monitoring, analysis, control and communication capabilities of DEWA's electrical system and proposes the most suitable road map for implementing Smart Grids.

Based on the outcome of the report; the need of installing additional Monitoring, analysis, control and communication facilities required by Generation, Transmission and Distribution will be identified and implemented on Short-, Medium- and Long-term bases.
