Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, chairman of Kingdom Holding Company (KHC), received at his office in Riyadh Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Mohamed Lemine, ambassador of Mauritania to Saudi Arabia.
The meeting was also attended by Hassna Alturki, executive manager for International Relations to the chairman, Fahad Bin Nafil, senior executive assistant to the chairman and Ahmed Altobaishi, executive assistant to the chairman.
The meeting began as the Mauritanian Ambassador thanked Prince Alwaleed for giving him the opportunity to meet with him.
During the meeting, the prince and the ambassador discussed a number of social, economic and investment issues and the prince’s philanthropic contribution to Africa.
In 2012, Alwaleed bin Talal Foundation- Global donated $500,000 to support the UN World Food Program (WFP) to assist the Mauritanian people who were suffering from a drought that had affected the country; it affected just over 25 percent of the population.
Alwaleed Foundation was the first to respond to the WFP’s emergency operation.
Previous donations made by Alwaleed Foundation through the WFP include assisting 30,000 people residing in the southern region of Guinea Bissau with the drought in 2006 and in the same year a donation was made through WFP to assist 3.5 million people afflicted by the drought in Kenya in 2006.
In 2011, Prince Alwaleed visited Mauritania and met with President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz and the first lady at the presidential palace in Nouakchott, Mauritania.
The meeting was also attended by Sidi ould Altah.
During the visit, the president and Prince Alwaleed discussed humanitarian, social and investment issues.
Also, the President awarded Prince Alwaleed the “Medal of Grand Officer of the National Order of Merit” which is the highest honor conferred by the Mauritanian president, in appreciation of his visit to the country.
Moreover, the president and the First Lady hosted a dinner in the honor of Prince Alwaleed.
In the same year, Prince Alwaleed received at his office in Riyadh Sidi Ould Tah.
Prince Alwaleed had previously visited the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott; during the visit the prince was welcomed by the government and people of Mauritania
