Qatar’s bourse, which hit an all-time closing high on Tuesday, edged up again yesterday, adding another 21.76 points, or 0.17 percent, to close at 12,961.56 points from 12,939.80 on Tuesday, as half of the 20 stocks in the index closed lower and trading value halved.
The volume of the shares traded fell to 35,753,926 from 56,890,638 on Tuesday and the value of shares decreased to QR1,454,042,231.17 from QR1,881,064,463.65 on Tuesday.
Among the top gainers were Qatar Islamic Bank, which was up 2.07 percent to QR78.90, International Islamic Bank gained 1.97 percent to QR88 and Doha Bank added 5.10 percent to QR86.50.
Al Khalij Commercial Bank was the biggest loser, falling 8.4 percent. The lender reported its first-quarter profit at QR109.2m, down from QR131.5m a year ago.
Shares in Ezdan Holding, which are not included in the main index, jumped their daily limit of 10 percent for the third session in a row. The firm bought a stake of more than 20 percent in Islamic investment firm Islamic Holding Group last month and investors expect it to make more Shariah-compliant investments.
