A high-level UAE delegation headed by Minister of State, Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, on Wednesday explored trade and development opportunities with Danish government officials and business leaders.

The delegation included representatives of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, DCCI, Emirates Airlines, DP World, Emirates NBD, Etisalat, Siemens, Roads and Transport Authority, RTA, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Dewa and Masdar.

The contingent comprising government, business and Expo 2020 Dubai officials met leading members of the Danish business community in Copenhagen.

The UAE and Denmark enjoy long-standing close cultural and trade relations and have a shared commitment to sustainability. Since 2014, the two countries have been working closely on a strategic framework for sustainable development in line with the Expo 2020’s sub-themes of sustainability, mobility and opportunity.

“Denmark has shown an unwavering commitment to sustainability and to promoting commercially viable sustainable solutions. The Expo 2020 Dubai will provide an ideal platform for Denmark to showcase its innovations in this arena, as well as to explore multiple business opportunities across a variety of sectors within the region and with other participating countries,” Dr. Al Jaber said.

The next World Expo, which will be held in Dubai from 20th October, 2020, to 10th April, 2021, will be the first to be staged in the Arab world and the Middle East, Africa and South Asia, MEASA, region. Around 70 per cent of visitors are expected to come from overseas, the highest proportion in the 166-year history of World Expos.

Dr. Al Jaber was joined in Denmark by Majid Al Ghurair, Chairman of the DCCI, Hassan Al Hashemi of the DCCI, and senior members of the Expo 2020 Dubai executive team.

The delegation also met Gretchen Watkins, CEO of Maersk Oil and Karsten Dybvad, the Director-General and CEO of the Confederation of Danish Industry (Danski Industri).
