Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (DU) was established in 2005 in Dubai, and started operations in 2006. Before the launch of services in 2006, its shareholders offered 20% of their shares in an IPO. Although Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company is its legal name, it was commercially rebranded as DU in February 2006. The company invested AED 2.4 billion in 2012 and added 1 million active mobile subscribers by the end of the year, bringing its subscriber base to 3.48 million. It provides fixed, mobile, wholesale, broadcasting and associated telecommunication services through its subsidiaries. The company caters to four segments in the market, Mobile, Fixed, Wholesale and Broadcasting. The Mobile segment offers mobility services, including mobile voice and data, mobile content, and mobile broadband WIFI services to the enterprise and consumer markets, and also sells mobile handsets. The Fixed segment delivers wire line services, such as broadband, IPTV, and IP/VPN business Internet and telephone services to the enterprise and consumer markets. The wholesale segment delivers voice and data services, including termination of inbound international voice traffic, international roaming agreements, international hubbing, and point-to-point leased line connectivity to national and international carriers and operators. The Broadcasting segment provides integrated satellite and broadcasting services to broadcasters and media companies. The customer base of the company currently comprises of 6.5 million mobile customers (almost 50% of the market share), 555,000 fixed line subscribers, 180,000 home services subscribers and over 70,000 businesses. The company's employs workers from different backgrounds that give it a diverse culture. EITC has, this year, announced to bring Virgin Mobile branded services into UAE. The brand will be aiming to cater to the needs of the 'youngsters segment' in the market. Du operates in the UAE region and does not plan to expand its operations in other countries.
